March Beauty Favourites

I could swear that it was Christmas only a few weeks ago, but here we are sitting in April already 4 months into 2016! Maybe it is just my old age (cough) but this year is flying by and I just need it to take it down a notch and slow down just a teeny bit, pretty please? As I sit down to write this post I just realised that I didn't do a Feb Faves post. These posts are definitely one of my favourites to write (and read) as it is always so interesting to see what have been your go-tos over the whole month - who else enjoys monthly favourites?

February and March have both been crazy busy months for me hence why my posts have been a bit slack lately, but I also feel like my February Favourites would have been very similar to my January Favourites anyway as I wasn't reaching for anything new. However March and the start of Autumn (though it very much still feels like summer most days) saw me using a whole bunch of new things and with it of course comes some new favourites! So let's get right on down to the nitty gritty.

As mentioned in my 5 Product Face Post a few weeks ago, this month I have been seriously loving the Tarte Tarlette Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette and the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I have pretty much been using both products everyday for the whole month for not only simple daily looks but also for more going out and evening looks making them easily new favourites of mine. I find the Tarte palette to be quite versatile and as a lover of all things matte, this palette is perfect for me. All the shades are quite wearable, fairly cool toned and blend like a dream. I would also add that they are quite long lasting as I don't experience any creased eyelids come 5pm. I don't have a single bad word to say about this palette!

As for the Too Faced mascara as I have mentioned before I was skeptical at first about believing the hype surrounding this but I can know say it is definitely worth the hype. I adore this mascara and it is perfect for both lengthening and giving volume to my lashes. If you have yet to try both of these products I seriously recommend that you do, I promise you will not regret it!

I have been totally and utterly head over heels in love my my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop for the last few months, but I recently hit pan causing me to have a mini mental breakdown (may or may not be a slight exaggeration) and come to the decision that I need to expand my horizons and show some love to the rest of the highlighters in my collection. This led to my newest love affair with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in the shade Starlight. And holy wow I don't know why I didn't use this sooner! This shade is described as a white gold which I feel is perfect for us pale skin toned gals as it is more on the metallic side of things. Don't let that put you off though as this is incredibly buttery and blends into a gorgeous shimmer that isn't too OTT nor does it enlarge the appearance of pores.

This month I started trying out a few Kat Von D products after seeing them pretty much everywhere lately! I am late to this bandwagon too as usual I know, but none of her products really screamed out to me before as I was firmly I love with my Stila eyeliner and I have way too many lipsticks to count (don't we all) so I felt like I didn't really need anything in particular. However, I was given a Sephora voucher for my birthday so I thought what better time to try out some new things without the spending guilt (because technically I wasn't spending anything right!) I purchased the ever hyped Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II and the Tattoo Liner in Trooper.

I will start off by saying that I am INCREDIBLY impressed by both of these products, like really really super impressed! The liquid lipstick is easily hands down one of the most comfortable matte liquid lipstick formulas I have tried to date and I am actually quite surprised how nice it is. As we know matte liquid lipsticks can be a total b*tch to apply and more often than not ends up being a cracked up mess on your lips. But not this guy. I honestly totally forgot that I had this on that's how comfortable and non-drying this is. It is true to its name and is long lasting and needs very little reapplication after eating. And the shade! Gorgeous, it is like a nude but deeper. Perfect if you want something more than a nude but not as punchy as a red or brown. I can't wait to try out more shades from the range. Now don't get me started on the liquid liner. I have documented my love for the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner many the time on my blog before but I was recommended to try the Kat Von D liner by the lovely Tenneil from Like Neon Love. I don't want to say too much because I want to do a comparison post, but you guys I think this one is the one.

Now for some skincare. I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the La Roche-Posay Serozinc after reading all about it on Caroline Hirons' blog as one of her Top 10 Spritz Toners - and you know that when skincare goddess that is Caroline Hirons recommends a product you shut up and listen. The La Roche-Posay Serozinc is zinc sulfate solution that is perfect for cleansing and soothing acne prone and oily skin. Now, I can't say that I have seen a remarkable difference in my oil levels but I can say as a lover of facial mists that this is one of faves. It is definitely soothing and is a lovely spray toner to prep the skin for moisturiser or even as a setting spray after make-up application. This is supposed to kill bacteria and leave skin feeling comfortable and mattified.

And lastly, my face mask of choice this month has been the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque* which I also included in my 5 of the best Face Masks for Congested and Oily Skin so I won't go on too much about it. This is a fantastic mask to clear out your pores and absorb excess oil without stripping the skin and leaving it feel irritated and dry. I love using this at the end of the week when my skin is looking and feeling particularly sluggish and dull.

What is on your favourites list this month? Leave me your posts below so I can check them out!

  2. I'm so happy the La Roche Posay Serozinc is finally available in Australia. I actually bought a bottle yesterday and I'm so excited to try it! I feel like I've been wanting it for the longest time but it just hasn't been readily available.

  4. I don't do monthly favourites posts on my blog just because I don't think they would vary much month-by-month, plus, I'm too lazy to keep track of things I'm gravitating towards, haha. I just do current favourites posts from time to time. I do enjoy reading other people's though and you have some great products here!

I'm not that drawn to the Tartelette Palette, I mean, don't get me wrong, it looks absolutely beautiful and I love the shades in it, but I just really love my shimmers! The In Bloom Palette is more up my alley and I'm thinking about purchasing it, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I've heard mixed reviews on the quality of the eyeshadows, but I'm glad to hear you think they're good and I think I'll go swatch it in Sephora and test it out for myself.

Wow! I can't believe you hit pan on a product like Champagne Pop! I really can't imagine hitting pan on something like a highlighter just because you only need the tiniest amount of product, particularly with one like Champagne Pop, which is so super pigmented! I'm so impressed, well done! Haha. I really want to check out the Anastasia highlighters, but Sephora Australia really sucks and don't stock them yet. This is also something I'm not 100% sure I'll buy just yet though because I really want the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight.

I'm so happy to hear you're loving the Kat Von D eyeliner! How good is it? To me, there is just no comparison between that and the Stila one because Kat Von D just blows them out of the water! The nib is sharper and more precise, it's easier to apply and I think you can remove it more easily, making it the clear winner. I'll definitely be sticking with Kat Von D from now on! I'm still yet to try the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, but as I mentioned, Sephora Australia is the worst and are always out of stock. I really want to try Bow and Arrow.

    1. Haha thnak you! I love doing them because I am almost always trying out something new!

Yes, definitely give it a try. At first I wasn't a 100% sure I really needed it either but I am so glad that I decided to purchase it. Maybe you might like the Tartlette in Bloom palette more? I think it may have more shimmers than just all mattes.

Ugh I know, I have no idea how I got there so quickly (I think I may go overboard sometimes actually haha!) I haven't tried that Kevyn Aucoin one yet but I have heard such great things!

I am so glad you recommended it to me because I think I love it more! xx

  5. Oh man, I really want to try Lolita II but I can't decide on whether I should get Lolita or Lolita II. They are both lovely shades and I have only heard good things but of the liquid lipsticks I have tried, I have never really quite fallen in love with the texture. It just kind of weirds me out but I might try one. I might. We'll see! ;)

  10. Hi Chantalle, I agree...the year is just flying by! It's scary how quickly! I've got my Serozinc at the ready to as my skin enters its oilier stage (nice, I know haha!) I am interested in how you compare the two eyeliners and will look out for that post as I was a little disappointed in KVD but found all peace and relief in Stila ;) xxx
