The 5 Product Face

Some days I am really just not bothered to put on a 'full face' of make-up - you know those days I'm talking about. On a daily basis working in the beauty industry,  I sometimes feel the pressure to look made up (especially at events or meetings!), so my usual everyday face would definitely have to consist of more than 10 products easily - it definitely helps that I love putting on the stuff regularly! But on the days where I just couldn't be bothered or on the weekends where I still want to wear a bit of make-up but want my skin to breathe a little, these are the products that are my current go-tos and ones that I have been reaching for lately. Let's talk my 5 product face.

I will always be about having a flawless base, and because of my oily skin I prefer a matte finish. During the week I will wear primer, foundation, a finishing powder and a setting spray to keep everything in place (sounds like a lot when you write it out...) so on the days where I don't want to wear much I will only wear foundation that still has a flawless base but also allows skin to breathe and show through. My pick is the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour full Coverage Foundation. Also featured in my 2015 beauty favourites, it is still a firm fave 3 months into 2016. Apply with a damp beauty blender and you will have a smooth complexion that still looks like skin in minutes. I love this foundation because it also minimizes that dreaded oily sheen from appearing several hours later.

To add a little bit of colour and dimension to my base, I have been using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Dim Infusion. I find this perfect to give the face a nice natural wash of colour that isn't too pink. I also like this as it has teeny tiny bit of shimmer, but not an OTT shimmer but just enough to give the face a lovely radiant and healthy glow.

I don't think I could ever leave the house without putting a little something in my brows - it just doesn't feel complete ya know? The brow product that has been on high rotation lately is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in the shade Chocolate. As a die hard fan of all ABH brow products (I am looking at you Brow Wiz) I was naturally going to jump on this as soon as I heard it was released. Slightly different but just as wonderful as the Brow Wiz, the Brow Definer has a thicker triangular tip which a find a bit easier to quickly define and sculpt brows while still looking quite au naturale.

For the rest of my eyes I have been really loving the original Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette. I have had this in my stash for a while now but I have only started using it a lot recently. I feel like a broken record when describing this palette as it sounds like every other palette I own, but the Tartlette palette has a lovely range of neutral all matte shades (big tick from me) that are incredibly velvety to apply and easily blended. It has a great colour pay off but it isn't too pigmented. Plus, the shade range I think is very versatile for a variety of looks.

Lastly, I apply the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I was late to bandwagon in trying this product (probably because of the cliche gimmicky name) but I was recently given this on my birthday and I am so glad that I was. This is one of the best mascaras I have tried that creates full natural looking lashes without the clumps. This wouldn't be my choice for a night out, but it is great for a quick natural make up look.

I did want to include a lip product as well, but if I am being serious with myself I never apply the same lipstick everyday soooo no lip product has been included here. I do wear one everyday which I guess you could say makes it a 6 product face... but for arguments sake and it being a 5 product face I have left it out (sue me haha).

What's your 5 product make-up look?

  1. Sounds like this combo would look really nice on, I imagine the Tarte foundation paired with the beauty blender would work perfectly. I also have the Too Faced mascara but haven't gotten around to using it yet, I'm beyond late to the party with that one as well but I'm excited to finally see what it's like for myself.

  3. I'm with you on the Tarte foundation, it's especially great with long work days! I also have ABH but love their brow wiz, and while I don't have the Tartelette palette (it has such pretty colors) I use the Tarte Safari one and it works just as well! :-) even though I have just about the same amount of products, it still takes me a while to finishing up my makeup and then having to rush to get ready every day, hahaha!

  4. Lovely picks and a very interesting post as, for instance, I would usually skip eyeshadows for a simple look. Yet this palette is gorgeous and going for matte shades on a simple day totally makes sense to me!

  5. Love this post! I adore the Tartelette palette, it has been on my wishlist since forever. Wow this would be challenge, having to narrow down my routine to five products. I'd go with Nars sheer glow foundation, Eyebrow pencil, Covergirl mascara, Lancome cushion blush and Benefit Benebalm! :)

    1. Thanks Regina! It's a beautiful palette isn't it! Trust me it was hard, but when you are in a rush and don't want to look too overdone these are perfect. I have yet to try the sheer glow foundation, but I've heard such great things about it! x

  6. I have been watching Tarte on QVC and it looks so amazing however I'm always reluctant to spend a lot of money on make-up when there are high street brands that are just as good. This is the 3rd review I have read today on Tarte products and I really want to invest!

I have very oily skin as well and struggle to find a foundation that doesn't enhance this.

    1. Tarte products are such a great investment, there is not one product that I have tried from the yet that hasn't been amazing. I would suggest maybe starting with one of their blushes as a different way to try out the brand - these are just as amazing as well.

I feel your pain, that is constant struggle for me as well. At the moment I am really liking this Tarte one as well as the L'Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation. Both are quite long lasting and don't leave you looking like an oil slick at the end of the day! x

  8. I love Tarte, and I really need to give one of their big palettes a go. I'm always so tempted to pick one up but then I always change my mind as I already have so many eyeshadows to go through. Their palettes are just too beautiful though and they sound so great for everyday neutral looks! xx

  12. You know I need to try the Beauty Blender like yesterday! I still haven't *shock horror*! I usually end up applying all my base with fingers and those giant foundation brushes never get a chance! I guess thats because I like a very very sheer finish in contrast to a full coverage or even medium finish?

Love Hourglass blushes! I am currently hooked to Diffused Heat its the perfect coral for this time!
