January Beauty Favourites

Yep you guessed it - it's that time of the month, again. January has pretty much whizzed right on by (and so is 2016 if we are being quite frank) but let's not dwindle too much on that fact because we could be here for a while. But in saying that, I do love me some February cz birthday month. Sadly I'm not getting any younger (a girl can wish), but who doesn't love birthdays!? I know I do.

But you know what I also love? The products pictured above - let's talk January beauty favourites.

I don't have too many new favourites this month as I am still reaching for the same products as last year (you can read all about my 2015 beauty faves here) but my base has had a little bit of a wee re-vamp as I have started testing out some new products that have been sitting in my stash unopened (I'm sure I'm not the only one with a secret stash of products idly on stand by, right?) and I think I may have found a new favourite base combo.

I must admit I was a little bit late to the L'Oreal Paris Infalliable Matte Foundation bandwagon but geeee I am so glad that I joined eventually. As someone with oily skin I prefer a matte base finish versus a satin or dewy one. You won't be needing no extra 'shine' when you have oily skin, trust. And this my friends delivers the goods. I find the finish quite comfortable on the skin, very velvety, but most importantly and true to the claim is a beautiful matte finish - no shine to be seen here! Paired with the L'Oreal Paris Infalliable Mattyfing Base you have yourself a winning combination that will prevail throughout the day/any first date swim sessions/disgustingly gross Australian summer heat. I have this in the lightest shade in Vanilla 11 which is an okayish match for my skin tone abet being a little bit on the pinkish side, but when you are as pale as I am (my friends can attest to this) this isn't a rare occurrence. Other than that small downside, I do see this being a staple all throughout February as well.

Now if you really want to bring out the big guns when it comes to the longevity of your base you need to try the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent. This is commonly used by beauty vloggers to 'bake' but I use this to set all my make-up. This is such a beautiful silky finely milled powder that gives a sheer yet soft-focus look to your base (think Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder but with less glow). I can quite honestly say that this LM powder seriously keeps oiliness at bay. I can last almost a full work day with out any touch ups and minimal blotting - an oily skinned girl's dream. I seriously cannot recommend trying this enough if you have oily skin and I think this may be overtaking my love for the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Foundation, just maybe...

A product making a re-appearance in my favourites this month is the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop. This has been a firm favourite of mine since purchasing this in my US beauty haul last year and how can it not be? This is quite possibly my favourite everyday highlighter evahh.

An oldie but a definite goodie that I have started using again this month is the NARS Narsisst Eyeshadow Palette. Sadly, this was limited edition but if they ever re-released this (I'm looking at you NARS) I would seriously recommend getting it. I used this palette religiously when it was first released but stopped a few months down the track. I'm not sure why I stopped though (I probably bought some other new shiny palette, let's be honest) but it has a seriously beautiful selection of shades that can bring you from day to night and in a variety of finishes.

For skincare, I have started trialing some new Boscia goodies and so far so good! My faves from the lot are the Detoxifying Black Cleanser and Purifying Cleansing Gel. I am currently alternating between the two and have found that my skin is looking more refined and much brighter. I will definitely be doing all full review all of the Boscia products I have so stay tuned for that.

Recently featured in my My Favourite Make-Up Removers, this Dermalogica Soothing Eye Make-Up Remover* has been a staple all throughout December and January. This has been a saviour to remove stubborn waterproof mascara and even budge proof liquid lipstick. Unsightly panda eyes are definitely a thing of the past with this bad boy around!

What products have you been loving in January? Have you tried any of these? Let me know below!

  1. I've only heard good things about the LM powder, and now that I've seemed to be getting used to using loose powders, I might have to try that one in the near future! I wasn't too fussed about the NARS palette when it came out and still wasn't that impressed when I borrowed it from a friend - the formula is gorgeous and it's a pretty good palette, don't get me wrong, but it seemed that I had similar colours in my hundred other palettes? THAT SAID, I fell head over heels for Fez and I'm constantly telling myself that I don't need to cough up the money to get Fez in single shadow form....:/

    1. Yes you definitely need to give it ago! It took me a while to get around to trying it but I am so glad I finally got there. It is well worth the price as well. It is quite similar to other colours I have as well, and do I really need it? Probably not! You should get it ... hahaha xxx

  4. Great favourites, A few products in there that I also love like the Becca Champagne pop and the L'Oreal foundation. I must get that LM setting powder, I am an oily mess so anything that will help keep my oil slick at bay is good in my books haha.

  7. I have heard so much about becca's champagne pop but I don't highlight as often as I should so I can't justify getting a full size highlighter powder... maybe i'll put it on my wishlist :)

  8. Hello! I'm a relatively new follower to your blog but I thought I'd say hi :)
I've heard so many great things abut that particular L'Oreal foundation but I have normal to dry skin now (I used to be more combination) so I haven't been liking matte bases as much.
I picked up the LM powder and Becca Moonstone on my recent trip to the states and I've been loving both too! Champagne Pop was my first Becca highlighter but I think I might just like Moonstone a little bit more. Funny, I went from owning like one highlighter to six ^^'

    1. Thanks for dropping by Chloe! No, I also don't think foundations with a matte base would suit your skin, though if you really wanted to try this I would recommend adding a few drops of a facial oil to your foundation (think Rosehip Oil or a Jojoba Oil etc.) and it really adds a nice glow and packs a punch of hydration to the skin. Ooo I have never tried Moonstone but I heard it is great for those with pale skin aka me ... YES my collection has definitely expanded over the last few months as well! xx

  10. Great pick of favourites here Chantalle! I have the Boscia Purifying Gel cleanser (I got it free with my Clarisonic) and I love it, I mainly use it with my clarisonic, but it is great without it too! I NEED that LM powder.. Maybe my next trip into the city will see that jump into my possession hehe!
