Colour Pop Haulin' & First Impressions

When it comes to social media hyped brands it doesn't get any more hyped than ColourPop Cosmetics. Not only are their product launches more lust worthy and exciting than their last, their products are incredibly affordable with a colour range that is simply gorgeous, AND with so many formulas to choose from it's no wonder that so many of us are left itching to get our hands on them and see what the hype is all about - me included. But as ColourPop is usually not so easy to get your hands on in Australia, it is safe to say that my ColourPop wishlist has been under construction and perfectly curated for a very very long time now.

However, that all recently changed and like nearly every single other beauty obsessed individual on Instagram, I too also took advantage of one of their latest Free International Shipping promotions - I mean you would be absolutely crazy not to right!? And boy oh boy am so glad that I finally took the plunge. As a ColourPop ~ virgin ~ I couldn't wait to see if their products would live up to their expectations. Let's take a peek at my small (but growing) ColourPop Collection and my first impressions on their products .

Being the true lipstick addict that I am, no order would ever be truly complete without at least one lipstick - or in my case 5. After constantly seeing their Lippie Stix on Kathleen Lights' YouTube and of course after lusting after her infamous Lumiere shade that she collaborated with CP on for so long it was only natural that these would be one of the first things added to my cart.

I picked up 3 Lippie Stix shades - Lumiere, Brink and Ellarie. Coincidentally all of these shades are in their matte formula, which for me does work out quite well as I much prefer a matte lipstick any day.

Left to Right: Lumiere, Ellarie, Brink

Lumiere is lovely balance of a mauve and dusty pink. Kathleen describes it as the perfect shade for anyone that is not too light and not too bold, and I completely agree with her. I love this shade as I don't actually have too many mauve lipsticks and I find myself reaching for this on a casual night out where I want a little something on the lips but isn't too 'look at me.' I hear this is a pretty close dupe to Kylie Jenner's Posie K and costs less than half the price, so guess which one I am sticking with.

Ellarie on the other hand is definitely a stand out shade. It is a gorgeous deep wine cranberry colour that is perfect for the cooler months. I haven't worn it much yet but I can see myself sporting this all throughout winter next year.  However, my favourite of the three has to be Brink, which I wore nearly everyday for 2 weeks straight - and that is one hell of a commitment from any lipstick lover. ColourPop describes it as a warm dusty taupe that is the perfect shade for a KJ pout. I personally find it a bit warmer that what I see as the perfect Kylie Jenner lips but I love it none the less.

The matte formula of these Lippie Stix is nothing short of amazing and is arguably up there as one of the best I have tried. The matte Lippie Stix I find last fairly long on the lips and also give it a bit stain that still sticks around after eating and drinking. They are quite comfortable and don't leave your lips feeling or looking dry. Most of the time I forget that I am even wearing anything at all! A big claim from me, but I think I may like them better than my beloved MAC Lipsticks... decision still pending.

Top to bottom: Solow, Succulent

Being the first time I forayed into ColourPop I had to pick up a few of their Liquid Ultra Matte Lipsticks. I went for my 2 go-to lipstick shades, a pinky nude and a bright orange based red - Solow and Succulent. I love both these shades and they are fairly accurate to the swatches on the website. However I am not entirely blown away with the formula. I find them to look quite chalky and dry on my lips. They don't feel too bad or uncomfortable on but I don't find myself reaching for these at all. I much prefer the finish and feel of the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits or the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lips. I will play with them a bit more however and report back again soon. I am thinking I may need to try their Ultra Satin Lipsticks instead! Anyone tried both formulas? What are your thoughts?

Top to bottom: Succulent, Solow, Lumiere, Brink, Ellarie

Ever since I heard about ColourPop I have been so intrigued to try out their Super Shock Eye Shadows. I am not normally a cream eye shadow gal (hello oily eyelids!) so I was just a little bit hesitant to purchase them. But nonetheless and after a massive trawl through various beauty blogs I decided to pick up the shades La La, Wattles, I Heart This and Supermodel. I find the formula super smooth and buttery and really easy to apply. I also LOVE the colour pay off. I prefer to use a brush to apply these but your finger is more than enough. On the plus side, these don't slip and slide throughout the day and appear to have a cream to powder finish (feel free to correct me if I am wrong haha!)

La La is a gorgeous metallic rose gold, perfect for wearing all over the lid by itself, Wattles is a little less metallic and has more of a terracotta pink undertone. Both I Heart This and Supermodel are much more shimmery than the first too with I heart this  a silvery taupe with glitter making it perfect for night. Supermodel is a more of muted gold and is more pearlised than glittery. I like to use this all over the lid for a softer day time look. ColourPop's eyeshadow shade range is so extensive I will for sure be picking up some more!

Lastly, I picked up a Super Shock Cheek highlighter in the shade Flexitarian. Like eye shadows, I am not usually a cream highlighter user as I much prefer powder. But apparently my collection is severely lacking in highlighters (note the heavy sarcasm) and I couldn't help but get another. I am not a huge fan of this but it is quite similar in shade to The Balm Mary Lou Manizer but definitely not as intense and slightly more glittery.

I can definitely say out of my ColourPop collection so far, their Lippie Stix and Eye Shadows are my faves by miles - I've already started thinking of my next purchase!

What are some of your favourite ColourPop products? Any recommendations or must haves are highly welcome as I prepare for my next haul! Let me know below!

  6. As I really want to try some Super Shock eyeshadows and Highlighters ( I love their Super Shock bronzers), this haul is very interesting to me, I also really like their Lippie Stix, as you said, mainly because they are extremely lightweight on the lips and the shade Brink is gorgeous indeed!
