Ever found yourself glancing at the bathroom mirror at lunchtime and discovered with shock horror that your once matte and flawless complexion has now transformed into something that closely resembles an oil slick? Because me too. On one too many occasions to count.
If you have oily skin like me, you might understand the struggle of finding a foundation that not only manages to last all day but doesn't leave you looking like you have just doused yourself in oil by 12pm. And when you experience that life changing moment of discovering the one, you stockpile that stuff like it is getting discontinued, but that's until your inner beauty addict reemerges and demands you try out some more foundations - because who are we kidding, where else are we supposed to get our kicks if we aren't constantly trying and buying new beauty products!?
However, over the last 3 months I've managed to stick with using just one base (I know, I'm just as shocked as you). The foundation that I have fallen in love with is the Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation* and if you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed this guy making an appearance or 5 - that's how much I have been loving it! Read on to find out why...
While Becca are practically infamous for their amazing highlighters (*ahem* Champagne Pop) and priming filters, they also have a seriously impressive range of other base products such as foundations, concealers, colour correctors and pressed powders that I have never really taken notice of or felt inclined to try before. But I am so glad that the guys over at ActiveSkin gave me the opportunity to test out this foundation, because quite honestly I would have never discovered just how amazing it is by myself - and now I'm telling you that you need to try it too.
I was given the shade 'Buff' which was an almost a perfect match for my skin tone. I say almost because no foundation I have found really matches me perfectly, I am that pale. This one leans slightly more on the yellow undertone scale of things but isn't hard to work with once blended, plus it cancelled out all redness on my skin, so big plus. At first though I found this foundation to bit a bit thick, a little similar in texture to the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation, and if I am being honest I found it harder to work with the first few times I tried it. But after many trials I found that this worked best with a damp BeautyBlender (definitely don't use a buffing brush) and a water based or gel primer instead of silicone - think Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer or Too Faced Hangover. Once I figured those two tricks out, the Becca foundation applied like a dream every time.
Becca claim that their Ever Matte Foundation features a unique spherical polymer that works to absorb oil on your skin so that it remains fresh and shine free all throughout the day- sounds a little bit fancy right? Better still, Becca make good on their promises. I work a full 8-hour day and if you count in approx 3 hours of traveling time, this foundation easily lasted over 10 hours if not 12 without looking overly oily, separating or generally looking worn out. I always set all my foundation with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder but I still find that some foundations can get quite oily on my t-zone and can separate around my nose area. This Becca foundation kept most oil to a minimum, my nose was a bit oily but nothing a bit of a touch up couldn't fix. I also found that a spritz of setting spray worked wonders in keeping my base looking fresh.
Not only that, the foundation gives a medium coverage that can easily built up to be a high coverage finish. If you like sheer glowly bases, this foundation is definitely NOT for you. This foundation is a true matte foundation, perfect for those of us who love a good old matte finish, have oily blemish prone skin or need a hard working base that pretty much lasts all day. If you have dry skin I think this will most likely cling to dry spots and may even make your skin drier due to its properties that draw oil out from the skin.
All in all, I highly recommend this foundation and it has already joined the ranks in my top 5 foundations (but more on those later...) It lasted all day, and kept my oil production for the most part at bay. The Becca Ever Matte Foundation usually retails for $70.00 but you can find this this foundation, the rest of Becca range and more amazing skincare and make-up goodies at ActiveSkin.

DeleteReally want to try a becca product but their a little bit pricey! Great review though and I love your photo x
ReplyDeleteThanks Olivia! I agree, some of their products are definitely pricey! This foundation is slightly cheaper on Active Skin if you are interested in trying it! xx
DeleteLove the sound of this! I think it would also work well with the Hourglass No.28 Primer Serum as that's what I use with Double Wear and it's highly effective.

I really need to try that Primer! I wasn't too much of a fan of the Veil Mineral Primer so hopefully that one works a lot better for me! x
DeleteI love Becca, especially the Champagne Pop stick. I haven't tried the foundation yet, but am really considering buying it after reading your review! I recently purchased the Maybelline Blushed Nudes Palette and love it - it's so affordable yet the shades are actually pretty well pigmented for a drugstore palette. Also, I'm currently having an Urban Decay Giveaway - I will be having a new giveaway every Friday with products from UD, Too Faced, Fresh, Hourglass, Buxom and more - you should come check it out! :)

How good is Champagne Pop!? Definitely one of my favourite highlighters! Definitely give it a go, it is a really great foundation if you are after a long lasting matte base. I have the Blushed Nudes palette too and I completely agree! Thanks for stopping by Liz! xx
DeleteThis foundation looks interesting, it probably wouldn't work for my skin though because matte foundations don't sit on my skin very well.

Matte foundations are the bane of my existence, any other formula just doesn't work for me!! xx
